Grape: 88% Colombard 12% Chenin Blanc

A delicious white wine from the Ron Burgundy crew which includes young gun Reenen Borman.

Notes from Reenen Borman;

Blend of 2 vineyards, mostly Colombard. Idea is to showcase that Colombard should not only be seen as a llitchi and tropical bomb. Soil is Karoo slate which gives great texture and minerality to the wine. Wines are wholebunch pressed and put directly in older oak for fermentation and kept on gross lees for 10 months. Racked and blended before bottling.

88% Colombard, 12% Chenin Blanc. Made by the Ron Burgundy team. Montagu is a ward within Klein Karoo. Pale gold. Very aromatic – a very rich nose. Fairly low acid for a Colombard but far, far more interest and flavour than most too. Really interesting with light bitterness – orange peel? – on the end. Very round with a note of white pepper and masses of fruit. A very interesting wine.   Drink; 2017-2018

Taught, dusty aromatics lift out the glass, suggesting impressive depth and intensity. Like the 2015, this is an ultra mineral, super focused, terroir orientated expression. The 2016 feels slightly denser, riper and more expressive than the excellent 2015 expression. This well balanced, intense white is cool and dusty, showing sweet lemon & herbs, yellow grapefruit, powdered gravel minerality, talc and dried cut grass. This wine is just that little bit more fleshy, concentrated and self assured than the 2015. Definitely a wine for people with a sophisticated, old world inclined palate. Worth searching out and buying if you love dry, mineral, slightly reductive whites made in a Chablis’esque style.

Using fruit from the same vineyard as  Patatsfontein (on Karoo slate soils at 560 metres), this is a blend of Colombard with 12% Chenin Blanc. Exotic and rich, it has nectarine and white peach flavours and a leesy texture underpinned by acidity and a touch of old wood. 2017-21
